The Tavern downstairs is really cool. Even if you eat upstairs you need to take a peek at the restored cellar. Then see and read about some of the history in the building. It’s part of the Underground Railroad. The ambiance is great downstairs. There’s also a gift shop.

Enjoy walking around the springs, going to the coffee shop next to the springs, feeding the ducks. Or take a picnic lunch. There’s a great public pool (cost money) with a huge slide nearby. Also in walking distance is an iron kiln.

If you’re here in peach or apple season (Aug, Sept, Oct), you’ll enjoy buying some of the freshest fruit ever. For a small fee you might be able to go on a hayride through the orchard, pick apples, and get an apple slushy. For free you can sit out on the large porch overlooking the orchards, play on the slide and other toys for kids, learn about bees and their importance to the apple industry, etc. You can get groceries to bring home too. Besides fruit, they grow much of their own veggies that they sell.

You won’t believe what they can do with gourds!!! And if you hit it at the right time, you may be able to take a tour or even make your own. They grow the gourds on their farm. The gift shop is breathtaking. You can even let the kids pick out their own gourd to take home and paint. It’s about an hour from our place—a beautiful drive through the country to get there.

You’ll have to look up the actual address on the internet. Look up: Utz Quality Foods Factory Tour. This free tour lets you see how potato chips are made and packaged in their factory. You learn some history about Utz. When we were there, one of the bags didn’t seal right on the assembly line so they brought a hot bag of potato chips to us. YUM!!! There’s also an outlet store nearby to buy Utz products.

This is a little gem just four miles away. Limited hours are M-F 9-5:30, Saturday 9-4:00. Who doesn’t like finding a deal in groceries? Some items are a real deal and some aren’t. Also if you’re one who won’t eat a packaged food after the expiration date, you need to be on the lookout. By law, they are allowed to sell only after a certain amount of time. I just got 24 packets of boullion cubes for $1.99 altogether. Not sure what I’ll do with that many….
