Moderate trail & the most popular in Big Bear Valley begins 1.1 miles east of the dam on Highway 18. This hike is 2.4 miles round trip and can get crowded. Great views of the lake. Parking is a pain but worth it. Dogs are allowed.

Highly recommend strolling down to this little park for sunset. We like to walk straight down from Pine Knot Ave in the Village, and enjoy ice cream on one of the benches or picnic tables. It's quiet and the views are gorgeous. You can normally find parking right there too if you aren't coming from in town.

You can normally find parking right there too if you aren't coming from in town.
Another sweet picnic spot on the other side of the lake. We love parking and taking a little stroll on the North Shore Biking trail, then landing here under a big beautiful tree for a quiet picnic lunch or dinner.

We love that Big Bear zoo has been rescuing alpine wildlife since 1959. It's a safe place for injured animals to rehabilitate and get a second chance back in the wild. The facility is owned and operated by Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District, a Special District of the County of San Bernardino. The Big Bear Alpine Zoo is a rehabilitation facility offering injured, orphaned and imprinted wild animals a safe haven; temporarily while they heal or permanently as they are unable to survive on their own. 90% of all animals brought to the zoo for rehabilitation are successfully released back onto their native environment. Those that remain on exhibit are either too injured or have been imprinted by humans and cannot be released back into the wild to care for themselves.
